This is a picture of the volunteers at our first pocket park project.  Headed up by Joey Englert (pictured far left), the park consists of 2 "lot next door" properties at the intersection of Gallo and Magistrate Drives in Chalmette.  This project was funded entirely by local residents.  We planted 48 various citrus trees.  In addition, the park has an irrigation system with water provided for by the parish.  Under an Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the parish, RDC volunteers will maintain the area.  When harvest time arrives, the residents are encouraged to pick and enjoy the fruit.  This is a positive way to re-incorporate back into our community some available land.  It provides greenery to the area, enhances the appearance of our neighborhood and helps the parish reduce cost by not having to maintain the land.
